Explorer Scouts are all about independence, adventure, and discovering your potential.
This is where young people really take the lead — designing their own programme, trying new experiences, and working towards top awards. From wild camps and Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards to international expeditions and leadership roles, Explorers is where challenge meets choice.
You shape the programme – Explorers work together to decide what they want to do. From survival skills to social action, there’s something for everyone.
More freedom, more responsibility – Explorers manage their own time, take part in longer expeditions, and get involved in volunteering or leadership.
Opportunities to grow – With links to the Young Leaders’ Scheme, District events, and national programmes, Explorers are supported to take on new challenges.

Our District has three Explorer Units, each offering a unique programme with lots of shared activities and joint events throughout the year. You don’t need to have been in Scouts before — anyone aged 14–18 can join.
Explorers can also volunteer as Young Leaders with younger sections like Beavers or Cubs — gaining skills and making a real impact. Learn more about that on our Young Leaders page.
Joining Explorers is easy — and we’d love to welcome you to one of our Units.
An explorer, adventurer and TV presenter, Dwayne's been seen in BAFTA nominated Channel 5 series Race to the Pole, on BBC Springwatch, Countryfile, National Geographic and Disney+.
